Sony Optiarc Debuts 12 x blu-ray writers, makes 'em friendly with BD 3D

Not that we haven't seen a 12 x Blu-ray burner before, but it will be a cold day in hell before you hear there griping about a little friendly competition. Sony Optiarc took the cellophane outside its latest harvest half height writers, the BD-5300S, BWU-500S and BWU-500S. These guys will soon be shipping in a variety of retail and OEM configurations, offering playback of Blu-ray 3D roasting, 12 x BD-R media (dual layer steps up to 8 x) and a copy of CyberLink Media Suite 8 with the drive. The outift s not talking dollars and cents, but you can judge the value for you, when they begin to filter in the coming weeks.

SONY OPTIARC AMERICA unveils NEXT-GENERATION BLU-RAY DISC rewritable DRIVES

SAN JOSE, California, November 4, 2010 – Sony Optiarc America today announced its generation half-height internal drive ® Blu-ray Disc rewritable (BD) for the aftermarket of computers.

Available in a minute and OEM configuration, new units are a burner ideal replacement for a DVD standard, offering all the advantages of Blu-ray technology, including 3D Blu-ray ™ high-definition playback.

Single units write BD-R media at up to 12 X and dual layer BD-R support up to 8 X speed, a full 25 GB disc recording in about 10 minutes. 12 X recording speed is achieved by using 6 X BD-R media compatible.

The model of brand retail BWU-500S with CyberLink Media Suite 8 software for capturing, creating, editing, backup, display high-definition personal content and playing movies Blu-ray discs, including Blu-ray 3D movies.Is also included in the box one 25 GB Sony BD-r disc.

New drives can record up to 50 GB of data for random access storage and backup on BD-R (write once) or BD-RE (rewritable) discs, or up to 220 minutes of high definition video in MPEG-4 AVC/h.264 bps 24 MB on a BD-R/RE 50 GB disc.

The units also record standard 4.7 GB DVD + R discs at up to 16 X DVD +/-r Double/dual layer 8.5 GB 8 X, DVD + RW discs at up to 8 X, DVD-RW discs at up to 6 X, CD-R up to 48 X, CD-RW discs at up to 24 X and DVD-RAM recording support speeds up to 12 X.

The indoor units equipped with serial ATA (SATA) and standard 5.25-inch form factor for easy installation inside a desktop PC. also incorporate intelligent monitoring for consistent recording and adjust the reading speed technology that improves fluid playback.
