HDHomeRun first CableCARD tri-tuner comes a step closer to reality

From Ben Drawbaugh posted November 2010 25 12: 43 PM HDHomeRun Prime: initially announced at CES in January, of ingress of dust of Silicon in the market of cable TV tuner encrypted just reached an important milestone on its way to market: CableLabs certification--anytime CableLabs is involved things take longer than anyone expects. The price of three HDHomeRun first tuner is still set at $ 249, but hope to be issued by the "holidays" seems lost (Thanksgiving counts?) as one of those days right. The product is expected to start production in the coming weeks, after which you will be able to pre-order the tuner elusive from large retailers. The big question is of course with 4 InfiniTV Ceton still a backlog of three months, and selling on eBay for more than two times the retail price, which is expected to ordered? We suggest that you pre-order is just to be sure; worst case you end up on the good side of eBay auction crazy.

HD 101: what is the local dimming?

From Ben Drawbaugh posted November 2010 4 12: 44 PM Side by side of plasma vs local dimming LCD: one thing that makes the LCD TV coverage so interesting is that the technology is advancing ever and an innovation that could be the biggest yet, local dimming LCD. But you're probably wondering, what is it exactly? Well in non-edgelit LED LCD TV, there is an array of led lights behind LCD pixels and local dimming is when sections of LED matrix are disabled or gray to help produce the deep blacks--as Kuro deep. But while this technology can produce very deep blacks and fantastic contrast, there is a problem, even create an artifact as a Halo around bright objects. Example: the two images above are opening scene of The Matrix (cops that shines a light flash) is pretty easy to say that is the plasma and LCD LED with local dimming. Of course we don't exactly watching movies with lights flash or fields stars every night, so after the break are multiple images of a dark scene also normal that expose the artifact caused by local dimming (we must emphasise that the camera makes more drastic than it looks in reality). So while we don't buy an LCD without local dimming, there is still much to look forward in the next generation when the dimming is sure to become more local, and so will be minimized the artifact. At the same time that these advances should help produce more detail in neri, which is harder to notice at first, but just as annoying, once you have.

Great lose 500,000 Cable subscribers in the third quarter, we send flowers

Bowers Ben posted on Nov 5, 2010 6: 18 AM : last quarter was the first time ever that subscription TV U.S. pay rates have declined. Now, according to the calculations of GigaOM, big cable suffered another set Back in the third quarter, waving goodbye to more than 500,000 members in total. Comcast was saddled with more than half of massacres and lost 275,000 customers, while Time Warner had a hit of 155,000 Subscriber. Charter Communications and Cablevision went a little better, but still added 63,800 and 24,500 respectively to the pit of despair industry.

Of course, the blame game for the poor numbers aimed squarely at the weak economy and increased competition from over-the-top video provider. Before it calls the undertakers away from his day job of wrestling, however, recall the traditional genre of cable, which is to increase prices for the remaining customers--vicious cycle, anyone? In fact, Comcast shared on his invitation to Q3 earnings that average customer revenue increased by ten percent year over year to $ 125 a month.Charter Similarly jumped by nine percent to $ 126, and while the same rate does not increase by Cablevision, monthly revenue for every customer still amounted to a whopping $ 149 a month So if the reason is cutting the cord or simply hard times, it's hard getting worked over self-inflicted wounds.

Antennas Direct DB8 Multidirectional HDTV Antenna

Antennas direct HDTV antenna multidirectional DB8

Aimed at people in large distances between the transmitters, DB8 is a powerful HD multidirectional antenna. In fact, its 15.8dB win make it one of the most powerful antennas multi-directional ion tie design of a DB8 uses triangular elements rather than rods to significantly increase the bandwidth that allows you to cover the entire UHF band. Furthermore, the reflector fabric loop is more efficient than a reflector stem, lower weight and offers less wind resistance for increased performance and durability .This DB8 is the antenna ideal for use in locations that can receive signals from long range from various directions and offers an attractive alternative to use a directional antenna mounted on a Rotator.

3 Stars It works!
I took my old antenna – at least 20 years old feathers and installed this new HD antenna. I also took my old booster and added a booster need to coincide with the antenna. well, I think I wasted my money, I receive the same reception and image I did before.Same channels are weak and the same channels are strong was easy to install and gather works ans.

2 Stars Very disappointing
Bought DB8 based on revisions after our previous antenna came down in a storm. We live about 35 miles South East of Nashville and UHF reception was only fair.Unfortunately, there was still a couple of seasons, staying in VHF antenna and this makes a lot of evil with VHF. as to be multi-directional … was not.Was very sensitive to the direction, much more than an antenna "directional" as the Winegard HD8200U.

After six months, I finally threw it and replace it with a Winegard HD8200U. Should have bought this antenna in the first place. The HD8200U has large reception for UHF and VHF stations.

1 starSearch for other locations
I ignored reviewers who noted the poor construction, etc. and bought Anyway. The instructions are useless, and the product simply cannot be mounted as shown in the images. The same instructions in ad site are less useless. any company that sells a product made so shoddily and who cannot write simple instructions to assemble a product with about 10 screws will be out of business before too long.Maybe if I drilled some holes more I could get it look something like the image, but that would void the warranty .... you would much rather go with another brand.

5 stars finally got all channels
This was the antenna 4 we bought trying to get all our channels area. This antenna caught everything you were looking for and then some. If you are looking for a great HDTV antenna, look no further. that's it!

5 starsMuch pleasure – (4th time is the charm)
This was the fourth antenna that I tried.

You read that right. Live in line minus 30 kilometers of transmitter stations, but below a bluff and behind a screen solid trees. This was the single antenna that could pull in all the stations that I was trying to receive. compared with other antennas, even a giant antenna, 10 feet long, DB8 is much less pampered with regards to the directionality and seems store signs more constant.

Assembly is relatively simple and straightforward – while most fasteners are infuriate wingnuts, you still need an adjustable wrench and pliers to some of the other screws.

1000HD MC Monster 2 M Ultra High Speed HDTV HDMI cable 2 meter

1000HD MC Monster 2 M Ultra High Speed HDTV HDMI cable 2 meter

HDMI puts incredible performance requirements on your digital A/V connections. It requires a truly great bandwidth that can bring enormous amounts of digital data without bit error and signal degradation. Monster created the Advanced HDMI 1000HD ultra High Speed Cable for those seeking the best in high definition home theater – both now and in the future. This cable is ideal for more advanced projectors and HDTVs, AV sources.Monster HDMI cables designs more advanced and certifies its performance for future product generations. If the performance features of this cable never be overcome by future generations of HDMI, Monster will replace this cable packaging of the product does not charge – see for more details.

1 star The usual Monster hype and lower results – for a price
Don't get me wrong: not only would I dare not wasting money on an HDMI cable at this price, but you would have to pay me to watch the video through a Monster product for more than a few seconds. Some reviewers here say that "digital is digital", there is no distortion thru any digital cable. Sorry, but this is false. If you think that the three digital numbers "1001100101111010 ?," 010 "111 10011 00101 and" 001 10 010111 1 010 ? are translated as "number one" by a DAC, you're mistaken. If you think 30AWG stranded Wire offers audio and video as clean as solid core wire 20AWG, you're mistaken again. If you think an HDMI soldier is so "good" as an HDMI connector designed crimp, you still wrong. If you think that cheap-gold connectors exceed titanium alloys/copper, you're so far behind you'll never catch up. And if the bit about silver-plating not touching a warning bell, you are desperate. Anyway, this atrocity Monster came as part of buying a relative of HDTV deal from a vendor Amazon-partner — "encyclopedia", if you don't count King's ransom paid for your TV. The cable has a lot of chroma noise. Red is especially loud and often bleeds the entire screen (this is a TV calibrated!); seems incapable of displaying a clean blue or yellow. Shades of meat look strange, and in general the colors seem to never "right". I have seen tests where impedance this premium video cable does not meet 100 ohms spec of HDMI. This certainly explains the horrible color. As usual with HDMI, there are a lot of smoothness over coaxial component good. Finally, the audio through this Monster is atrocious garbage; has a low midrange depressed, gooey and really mushy superior mid and treble soundstage with a simple, poor and channel separation without dimensionality in all. I got to give it away, but I wouldn't do something like a strange, much less to anyone I know. I replaced it with a [...] Chinese Cable from Amazon that I used for a couple of years. its color, acutance and audio are superior, though by design wireless HDMI at any price can beat the solid core coaxial.I still have a couple of s-video to dance circles around hype of HDMI, especially the Monster brand hype. You could say this product helps the environment by cleverly repackaging of industrial waste, but it is annoying to realize that so many people are suckers for appliances like this. Amazon has many other, HDMI cables, so avoid best listed but get your Monster HDMI JACK other offerings from Amazon.Unfortunately the mediocrity as this is selling so well becomes the norm.[...]

1 starWorks not better than a Coat hanger
If the image and sound are there for digital devices, then he is working. A blind-tests proved this:

[...]

1 starSnake Oil
I don't own this cable, but knowing that this company is pure snake oil, like all other cables with high prices are. Delight yourself with some knowledge and become well informed about the true physics of sound and visual signals:

[...]

1 starIf you buy this cable, congratulations you only lost $ 80
The digital signals are a long string of 1s and 0s. There is no 0.5. He is or its slack. There is absolutely no difference in quality of audio or video between this cable and a cheap $ 5 If you buy this cable, congratulations, you spend just $ 80. the same thing with DVI cables too.

This however, is not the case for analog cables as a component and s-video. these cables, once they are analog signals and continuous (discrete as DVI, HDMI), will benefit from higher quality cables.

5 stars Monster hdmi 1000hd
OK, I have used this cable my self and just bought another cable from a seller here at Amazon for $ 23.00 usd. at 23 people would be fools not to buy. look in cables used amazon are really new but won't allow them to sell as new there pricing. and how far an hdmi hdmi is another saying are fools. there are 4 reviews for hdmi cables so far. hdmi, hdmi 1.3a, hdmi 1.3B, 3 c 1. HDMI Jack. If you're like me audiophile. you a home theater will have this cable I have a denon dts-hd, dolby hd reciever. the cheap cables would sound encoded in hd but receiver sounded very loud muted. wasnt. then I put this guy in a wow what a difference .i tried 3 other hdmi cables I had to back the same results. think about it…You passed 300-1000 for a good receiver, 200-500 for a Blu-ray good, but you won't spend 23 dollars to buy a monster hdmi cable?is a Monster Cable, hence it will work perfectly with nice tight connections and extremely well built design. what other dont tell you is that cheap cables can come apart and connections can be loose. SO WHY WOULD YOU TAKE The CHANCE? not purchase cheat other reviewers a cheap cable is not so good I know this experimentation and ERRROR. however don't pay 100 bucks for this cable that is just foolish then Yes you are getting ripped off. ANOTHER question I have others OUT THERE IF YOU HAVE A SAMSUNG TV And when you turn IT ON THEN POWER UP YOUR DVR OR DVD BLU-RAY PLAYER And SOUND DOESNT WORK UNTIL you RESTART YOUR TV IT IS not your TV IT IS YOUR HDMI CABLE HDMI CABLE assembly NIKO.LOOSE back from TV causes THIS. BUY this CABLE And PROBLEM IS resolved.

Poll: lights motion of your HDTV or disabling transformation?

TruMotion, expletive inducing Auto Motion Plus, MotionFlow, each manufacturer has some slick name for its 120 Hz/motion processing technology of 240 Hz/480 Hz etc. which speeds up the update and interpolates frames to experience video apparently easier, but we know that isn't always the case. Can vary from implementation of the content displayed, but after the "triple ball effect" and living one too many movies that suddenly looks like soap operas, discover how to disable the effect is one of the first things we have learned to do on many TV. Of course, everyone has their preference, let us know how you feel, and when you put better use.

Plex arrives on jailbroken Apple TV (video)

Boxee could have all the attention, but Plex is undoubtedly one of our favorite Mac Media Center apps. You then wide-eyed with interest that we told the client Plex, making its first steps shy on Apple TV platform. Of course, not behind the initiative to replace the UI 10-foot "Lowtide" own Apple--Cupertino this work was done by the community of jailbreak Apple TV. Generating ATV2 is still only a proof of concept, so for now is buggy and limited for video playback (no managing music, pictures or app). But hey, it's another iOS app for ATV2 and works as evidenced by the video after the break. Man, that we're getting everyone buzzing at the thought of scattering around the House boxes $ 99 to serve the wide variety of codecs supported by Plex besides more limited AirPlay of Apple.

Viacom drops the hammer of prohibition on Google TV, streaming episodes blocks

Tim Stevens posted on Nov 22 2010 6: 56 AM Viacom drops the ban hammer on Google TV, platform gets a little less attractive: there are high hopes that Google TV will evolve into something magical and wonderful over the next year or so as its namesake adds applications and features of flesh out the platform of dubious current state. Today, though, just a little less attractive thanks to a move from Viacom to block the full episodes from streaming on your Revues Logitech Internet TV and Sony and the like. We have confirmed with our Revue that attempt to episodes streaming from network sites such as MTV, Nickelodeon, and Comedy Central show messages like "this content is not available for your device," which is a change unhappy and frustrating. Yes, the user agent tweak still works, but it would be nice if we could all just going to have? Surely Google is still working on its content partnership agreements and hopefully things will improve in the future, but given how friendly the past reports of the company with Viacom were that we are not optimistic on this front in particular.

Shocker! WiLAN drums up another lawsuit, this time against a big cable

Bowers Ben posted on Nov 24, 2010 8: 29 AM : as the saying goes, whenever you delete a iPhone, another wide sweeping patent lawsuit world tech shoots in plantiff-friendly Texas Eastern District courts of the United States. Okay, so maybe there is no factual basis, but who knows if the last case filed by seed-happy Canadian wireless companies WiLAN against Comcast, Time Warner, and notices of paper is more legitimate. The dispute is over U.S. Patent No. 5,661,602, which is one of 970 society issued or pending patents, and was awarded in 1998. It covers "hybrid multichannel data transmission systems using a transmission medium"--a.k.a. the transmission of data to the computer and remote networks. WiLAN has exploited their ole ' favorite USA law firm, McKool Smith for case and States that the triumvirate big cable is in violation of patent, though a spokesman for Comcast noted that he had not been served with a complaint yet. Unfortunately (or not-so-unfortunately, depending on your perspective) cannot take part in oscillation of the hammer, but whereas WiLAN against Alcatel-Lucent, Sony Ericsson and LG last month and Acer, Apple, Dell, HP and Lenovo in April in judgment, there is plenty of evidence that lawyers of this dress are employees to work harder on the payroll.
